They expressed that they had conducted an extensive search to find a builder that blended attention to design detail with the technical knowledge needed to build a net-zero home.  They selected GBCo based on its reputation for technical and innovative building proficiency especially regarding building energy efficient homes and efficient building sciences.

 

GBCo collaborated with the architect, project efficiency expert, the solar company to conduct solar design studies to determine what trees needed to come down, what was the optimal orientation of the house, and what size solar array was needed to fuel the home’s energy needs. Additionally, the team's design required the walls and foundation to be constructed with insulated concrete forms (ICF’s) that were  carried all the way up to the roof trusses. That meant that the entire structure from the foundation to the roof is to be built using reinforced concrete that is covered by foam insulation and cedar clapboards. In the end, the design/build team accomplished the goals set by the Clients, and created a beautiful home that received a final HERS rating of (– 16).
