The George Estabrook - A New Old Home

Greek Revival Style

The George Estabrook is a new old home that was designed and built by Gilmore Building Company, Inc.  Its design is one of the many traditional New England style homes built by Gilmore Building Co. in Central MA in the Town of Grafton.     Its design was inspired by and is therefore, reminiscent of the romantic houses found during the early to mid 19th century.

The idea of a new old home means it looks 200 years old from the curb but it is fully modern inside complete with all the conveniences need by a family today.  It looks old but its new construction means it requires low energy consumption and has low maintenance requirements.

This particular home is a Greek Revival style that can be further classified as a "Gable Front and Wing".  The wings were usually lower than the main gabled section of the home.  This style was very popular throughout New England during 1825 - 1860.  Some of the details common to this style are wide friezes, emphasized cornice lines, ornate entry doors, and classic Greek columns.
