Net Zero - High Performing New Old Home

The Owner of this home asked GBCo to work with him to produce a home that was as close to net zero as you can get while not sacrificing the period aestetics that the client sought.  As part of this GBCo worked with our architect, engineer, SIP panel manufacturer, HVAC contractor, insulation contractor and our HERS rater to model different approaches for overall efficiency and cost.  In the end, the group decided to use the following: traditional cast-in-place foundation with 3" of closed cell foam and under slab XPS foam insulation, Structural Insulated Panels(SIP) for the walls and the roof, European tilt turn windows and doors, Mitsubishi Heat pumps to heat and cool, an ERV for fresh air requirements and Solar panels to provide power.  In the end the project is about as high tech as they come while still maintaining the look and feel of yesteryear.   It is truly a high performing new old home.
